A GREAT VALUE FOR MONEY NEW ANNUAL PREVENTATIVE HORSE HEALTH SCHEME
WHAT IS A HORSE HEALTH PLAN?
A Health Plan is a complete package of annual veterinary care at a competitive price and is a simple way to ensure the best preventative healthcare for your horse. As veterinary medicine advances, our work is becoming increasingly pro-active and less reactive, meaning that we are trying to prevent injury and illness in horses by working with you, the owner, and detecting potential problems earlier, rather than treating a disease once it has taken hold. This is especially important as horses get older and become more prone to injury and illness.
We hope that these Health Plans will give you peace of mind that many aspects of preventative healthcare for your horse have been covered in one, simple package.
-
WHAT ARE THE BENEFITS FOR YOU AND YOUR HORSE?
- Annual visits allow us to build up a complete patient history over several years, creating a baseline for comparison should problems arise later.
- Reassurance over safety concerns, e.g. heart, eyes.
- Decreased number of riding days lost through unsoundness or illness.
- Small upfront cost could help to prevent larger veterinary bills.
- Improved relationship with your Vet – a chance for your Vet to become more involved with your horse.
- Allows time to talk about any aspect of healthcare, including those arising as a result of the Health Plan.
- You will be saving large amounts of money
- Possibility of a reduction in insurance premiums for those with horses registered for a Health Plan.
-
WHAT IS INCLUDED IN THE HEALTH PLAN?
- FREE annual visit—in order to keep the visit free of charge we will be trying to coordinate the Health Plans to happen on the same day that we are in your area carrying out our free vaccination visits
- Annual vaccination
- Clinical examination—to include a general health check, with particular attention to the heart and lungs. The vet will also conduct a body condition score of your horse and discuss weight management advice with you. The examination will also include watching the horse trot up and performing flexion tests.
- Dental check and manual teeth rasping
- 2 worm egg counts— ideally analysed at 6 monthly intervals during the Health Plan
- Worming plan—based on your horse’s worming history, pasture management and results of worm egg counts.
- Any wormers required will be supplied AT COST PRICE
The Health Plan will include:
HOW MUCH DOES THE HEALTH PLAN COST?
The annual cost of the Health Plan will be £70 + VAT
In the first year, this will be payable in full at the time of registering a horse for the Health Plan. In future years, we hope to be able to offer you the choice of paying by monthly Direct Debit instalments, too.
-
EXTRA SERVICES
- Blood sampling and health profile—the normal cost for this is £53.12 + VAT but, if the blood sample is taken at the time of the Health Plan visit, this cost will be reduced to £40 + VAT.
- Sedation for dental work—this will be charged at the normal rate. For an average 500kg horse, this will cost in the region of £22 + VAT.
- Power rasping of teeth—this will be charged at the normal rate of £42.87 + VAT.
- Tapeworm ELISA—tapeworm eggs cannot be seen under a microscope so the only way for the laboratory to diagnose tapeworm infections is by analysing a blood sample. If you wish for this test to be carried out, there will be no charge for taking the sample but the normal postage and packaging and laboratory fees will apply.
Numerous extras can be tagged on to the Health Plan; it is helpful if you mention that you require these services at the time of booking.
