Caesarians are usually done with the cow standing (some may need a little sedative!).
Local anaesthetic is used to numb the skin and muscle layers where we will cut.
After opening the skin, there are three layers of muscle to get through before we reach the peritoneum (the thin layer lining the abdomen)
